NEW FOR 2015:
- All new model.
Volkswagen?s performance legend returns for 2015 a brand new vehicle. Riding on the global MQB platform, it?s lighter, stronger, and more performance oriented than ever.
It?s also neat to see the GTI?s evolution since the Mk.V model arrived back in 2006: the honeycomb grille and red grille stripe are still present, but they cut through the headlamps, while the iconic telephone dial wheels have sharpened into ninja blades. And yes, GTI fans, the chunk flat-bottom steering wheel and plaid sport seats are still a part of the package.
Under the hood the GTI has a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine that makes 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It?s harnessed to the front wheels via VW?s XDS cross differential and a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG paddleshift automatic. As with many brands, selectable drive modes are offered. Amazingly, the GTI is only a smidge thirstier than its standard Golf cousin, is just as refined a cruiser, and is somehow free of torque steer.
While the Golf R will be offered for 2016, Volkswagen has given enthusiasts something special in the interim. A new range-topping Performance trim adds a limited-slip differential, better brakes, adaptive dampers, and 10 additional horsepower.
The GTI three-door is available in GTI, Autobahn, and Performance trims; the five-door body style is available only with Autobahn and Performance trims.
Features on the GTI include 17-inch wheels, black front grille with honeycomb mesh and red stripe, power heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, rear spoiler, heated windshield washer nozzles, dual exhaust pipes, trip computer with lap timer, 5.8-inch display audio system AM/FM/satellite radio, dual SD card input, voice control, eight speakers, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, alarm, armrest with storage compartment, two 12-volt power outlets, cruise control, rear cargo cover, sport seats with cloth upholstery, rear air vents, power windows, keyless entry, lockable glove box, leather-wrapped shift knob and handbrake lever, leather-wrapped GTI-specific multi-function steering wheels, tilt and telescoping steering column, eight-way manually adjustable seats, heated front seats, Easy entry system for access to rear seats, drive mode selector (Normal, Sport, Individual), aluminum pedals, aluminum accents, LED interior lights, ambient lighting, illuminated vanity mirrors, and sport suspension tuning.
The Sport Package adds 18-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, and KESSY proximity key with push-button start.
Autobahn adds 18-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights, KESSY proximity key with push-button start, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, reverse camera, 400-watt Fender sound system with eight speakers, and rain-sensing wipers.
Technology Package adds navigation with single-disc CD player, and forward collision warning.
Leather Package adds leather upholstery with leatherette door trim and a 12-way power driver?s seat.
Performance adds drive mode selector with additional mode (normal, sport, comfort, individual), upgraded brakes with GTI caliper logos, adaptive suspension, summer performance tires, and 10 additional horsepower.
